What is Modern Revival?

Modern Revival is an intentional community, comprised of “circles” or groups of eight to twelve women that gather for three hours each month to share, listen, learn and play to create deep connections at the root of collective wellness. Modern Revival is founded on reclaiming real connection – we are reviving what real connection to the self and to other people looks like. It’s a space for emotional growth, intentional relationships and practical exercises that are fun and lean into the playfulness we were all born with.

We’re having real conversations and we recognize that there is an opportunity for all of us to learn and grow. At Modern Revival we believe we can all learn from each other’s experiences. There's something uniquely powerful about doing the work to grow yourself in the presence of other people.

Who is Modern Revival for?

Modern Revival is for women who are committed to growth and interested in developing deeper relationships and collective wellness. As Americans, we are most familiar with a culture that focuses on self-reliance, independence, the individual journey and individual responsibility at the expense of valuing, acknowledging and playing with the reality of interdependence and connection.

What need does Modern Revival fill?

Despite so many ways to connect in our digitally-driven world, people are lonelier than ever – so much so that the U.S. Surgeon General issued an advisory in May 2023 about “the public health crisis of loneliness, isolation, and lack of connection in our country.” In our distracted and disconnected culture, Modern Revival builds intentional community and meaningful connections. For individuals longing for genuine relationships and a sense of belonging and purpose, Modern Revival offers a structured, nurturing environment where women come together in small groups, or "circles," to engage in authentic dialogue and shared experiences.

How can I join?

What is included in an annual membership?

Your annual membership includes 10 in-person sessions, as well as access to the entire Modern Revival network of members.  You’ll also get early access to retreats, workshops, and social gatherings.

Do you offer discounted pricing?

We offer flexibility in our pricing approach, so that our members can decide which payment cadence works best for them. We want Modern Revival to be accessible and offer financial assistance to those who qualify after review. Should you like to inquire about payment questions or financial assistance, please reach out to a member of the Modern Revival team.

What if I try Modern Revival and change my mind?

While we carefully screen and curate our groups, we understand Modern Revival may not be fit for everyone.  In the event you are unable to continue with your group, we ask that you work with a member of our team to transition out of your group, so as to not be disruptive to the other members.

What is your missed session policy?

We understand the people have to miss & groups find a way to keep you current… Our group agreements state that each member can miss up to two sessions and must communicate your absence to your fellow group members.  If you need to miss more than two, your group must decide how to proceed, as your absence impacts others.

How do you handle confidentiality?

Upon joining a Modern Revival group, each member signs group agreements that include a commitment to confidentiality.  This is also addressed during the first session.

Why is Modern Revival for women only?

Modern Revival began with and is currently focused on women because we believe there’s always a need for more safe spaces for women. Modern Revival is geared towards women but is for anyone with a curiosity and appetite for collective wellness.

The Experience

If you don't see your question here, please contact us and we'll be in touch with a response shortly.

How was Modern Revival’s curriculum developed?

Our founders, Mikel Blair and Courtney Smith bring more than 20 years of collective experience in many different modalities including: Conscious Leadership Group, Byron Katie’s work, The Hendricks Institute, and the Enneagram with a fresh perspective fit for the modern world.

How does Modern Revival Work?

Each circle will consist of 8-12 women who meet monthly, in person, for three hours in a space provided by Modern Revival. Here's what to expect:

Co-creative Community: Modern Revival weaves together practices from the Enneagram tradition, Conscious Leadership Group, Byron Katie’s “The Work” and The Hendricks Institute to create a structured curriculum that facilitates learning, growth and expansion at each meeting. Through leadership, participants serve as allies to one another and mutually support and benefit from one another’s work.

Introductory and Advanced Practices:
Exercises include reflection inquiry and embodiment to ensure participants experience teachings in their bodies, hearts and minds. Through these tools, Modern Revival helps individuals break through their patterns and limiting beliefs and more fully experience aliveness, connection, integrity, appreciation, effectiveness, authenticity, clarity, support and freedom.

Curated Materials:
Each participant receives a monthly package from Modern Revival containing guided learnings and exercises to supplement the curriculum and sessions.

What is the format of a group?

Our group format is composed of 8-12 members and a facilitator who meet monthly for three hours.

Is Modern Revival available virtually? Or is it in-person only?

Modern Revival’s experience is all about the in-person dynamic – the energy and feeling that comes from physically being in a room interacting with others. Modern Revival hosts classes in Bethesda, Maryland and Los Angeles, California but we may expand into hosting online circles if there is enough interest.

What is the recommended size of a revival?

Ideally, we keep groups between 8-12 members.

How are groups assigned?

A member of the Modern Revival team screens all group inquiries and carefully curates each group.

What if I try Modern Revival and change my mind?
